The release of the anthology ‘Rrways, A Journey into the World of Itinerant Amazigh Poet-Singers’ has led to the production of an exceptional work that invites us to discover a gem of Moroccan musical heritage, enhanced by the finest artists and carried by the warm music of the Ṛṛways.

As part of this project, carried out by Brahim El Mazned and produced by the Atlas Azawan Association and the cultural engineering company Anya, a partnership agreement was established between the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) of the Agadir Ida Outanane Prefecture and the Atlas Azawan Association, in coordination with the Regional Directorate of National Education.

Under the program “Human Development of Future Generations,” the INDH and Atlas Azawan organize meetings between middle and high school students from the Souss region and several Rrways artists, researchers, and academics. From March 29 to 31, 2021, students from the Nabouls High School in Taghazout had the opportunity to participate, followed by students from the Al-Aqqad High School in Amskroud from April 5 to 7.

This activity aims to develop students’ artistic and cultural awareness through artistic workshops led by several Rrways masters, including Moulay Ahmed Ihihi, Lahcen Belmoudden, Fatima Tabaamrant, Ahmed Oumast, Fatima Tachtoukt, among others, with the presence of musicians and researchers like Dr. Lahcen Bouyaakoubi, Khalid Alayoud, Mohamed Oulkach, and Brahim El Mazned. These meetings allowed the high school students to understand the importance of knowing and preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the art of tirruysa, as well as the richness of this music, with its unique instruments and sounds.

These days of exchange with the younger generation were also an opportunity to present the Anthology of the Rrways and to raise awareness about this project, focusing on both transmission and preservation. Several musical instruments and copies of the anthology were given to schools.
