The “Anthology of Rrways” is the result of two years of careful work, with many days of recording and filming to bring together a quality collection of significant pieces from both old and new Ṛṛways music albums.

This new anthology, “Rrways: A Journey into the Realm of Amazigh Wandering Poet-singers,” is the result of thorough research and comes in a box set of 10 albums featuring 100 tracks recorded by over 80 artists in a Casablanca studio. The anthology also includes 3 booklets, each 120 pages long, in Arabic, French, and English. These booklets cover topics such as the origins of Ṛṛways music, its history and evolution over time, different rhythms, and biographies of the main Rrways and Taṛṛwaysin artists.

The Anthology is primarily a tribute to the Taṛṛwaysin, Rrways, and all those who continue to preserve this artistic tradition that is an essential part of our national musical heritage. This project was made possible by the involvement and spontaneous efforts of many researchers, technicians, and artists, including about fifty performers and singers from several regions of Morocco such as Agadir, Inzegane, Marrakech, Casablanca, Essaouira, and Ouarzazate. They were eager to share their art and contribute to preserving and passing it on through this project.

For those familiar with this music genre, these educational booklets will open the doors to understanding this musical heritage: the origins of Rrways music, its history, rhythms, and melodies, as well as the choreography used in performances. Listening to the tracks included with these booklets will deepen your experience and knowledge of this art.

The Anthology of Rrways, a joint production of the Atlas Azawan Association and Anya, directed by Brahim El Mazned, is the embodiment of the desire of the involved parties to preserve and promote Morocco’s intangible heritage through the music of Rrways; an art that has finally taken the place it deserved for a long time.

It is an invitation to discover this new book on Morocco’s musical heritage, filled with the best artists. It is also an invitation to dive deeper into the wonderful world of Rrways music.
